RHODE ISLAND BOATING SAFETY COURSE --  IT'S A RHODE ISLAND LAW

Rhode Island mandates that all persons born after 1 January, 1986 must
complete the state's Safe Boating Course in order to operate a boat with a motor
greater than 10 horse power.  In addition, all persons, regardless of age,
operating a personal watercraft (jet ski) must complete the course.  The course
qualifies as the ground school portion of the MWR Power Boat certification
requirement and must be completed for qualification by persons born after
January 1, 1986.  Completing the course, while offering safety benefits to anyone
operating a boat, may reduce boat-owner liability insurance costs (USAA will
reduce premiums by 5%).

The course, consisting of two sessions, is scheduled for Tuesday 17 April and
Thursday 19 April from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  It will be given by Ed Noll, a Coast Guard
licensed charter captain and certified state instructor. The class and all materials
are provided at no cost.   The class size is limited.  Register at the MWR
Administrative Offices, second floor in building 1121.  For more information call
841-3855.
